Healthy, Glowing Skin and Beyond:
Borage oil as a source of Gamma linolenic acid (GLA)
In the standard North American diet, we are exposed to high amounts of pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids such as arachidonic acid (AA). These fatty acids can be beneficial but with chronic overexposure it can upset the delicate inflammatory balance of our bodies. Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, eczema, and dermatitis are all linked with elevated AA promoting chronic inflammation. Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is also an omega-6 fatty acid that is produced by the body and is converted to DGLA. DGLA it is a less potent inducer of inflammation as compared with AA. DGLA is also able to promote the production of anti-inflammatory mediators. Borage is one of the highest and most bioavailable plant sources of GLA at 20%, versus the meagre 7% of GLA present in evening primrose oils. Therefore less borage oil is required to get to the therapeutic dosage of GLA, in order to treat conditions such as mastitis, allergies, and skin conditions as well as to supporting nerve transmission and hormone production. AOR’s Borage 1000 V-Softgel is a superior source of GLA standardized from borage oil and delivered via a vegan softgel for improved absorption.
Borage 1000 is organic borage oil, a richer source of the omega-6 fatty acid gamma-liolenic acid (GLA) than evening primrose oil. GLA promotes healthy skin.
