Dr Traj Nibber, CEO and Director of Research at AOR has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of nutritional science and supplementation. We have asked him for his expert opinion on a number of nutrients, to feature in our blog. We hope you enjoy these insights and overviews of some key nutrients.

In this blog he explains why you want your B Complex supplement to have the active forms if the B vitamins.

Vitamin B is a big family from B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (calcium pantothenate), B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cyanocobalamin) and other related ones like folic acid, inositol and PQQ.

The health benefits of B vitamins are well established, but the body must first convert these into their co-enzyme or active forms. For example, vitamin’s B2 and B6 active forms are their 5 phosphate forms. Others like folic acid are also in their active form like tetra hydro methyl folate which easily outperforms the widely used folic acid. Once the B vitamins are in their active forms their health benefits are that much greater as well. Unfortunately, conversion into the active forms requires energy which the body may not be able to provide if there is lack of optimal health or poor diet.

The health benefits of B vitamins are well established, but the body must first convert these into their co-enzyme or active forms to be used effectively by the body.

Providing B vitamins already in their active forms enables not only to get more out of the B vitamins but also get quicker results. AOR’s Advanced B Complex has been the leading supplement that was first able to recognize these active forms and introduce to the market. Besides active forms, other B vitamins are in their more bioavailable or better absorbable forms are included in the formula like benfotiamine which is 4-6 times more absorbable than regular thiamine. In the case of vitamin B12, most supplements use cyanocobalamin form which is cheaper, less stable and less active form. In AOR’s Advanced B Complex, the more stable and active forms like methylcobalamin or adenosylcobalamin are used.

Using a supplement that has the nutrients in their active forms gives the body a head start in being able to utilise the nutrients.

Advanced B Complex is an important supplement that not only provides an individual more energy which is great for people that are active, fatigued or over stressed, as well as those recuperating from an illness but also someone that wants to boost their immune health. Advanced B Complex is an all-purpose supplement that should be part of everyone’s choice to combat rigors and challenges of daily life.
